About Me

Shan

Contributing Physician Author and Editor

Although he has found himself in a variety of trades over the years - freelance writing, selling computers, teaching chess, dealing guitars, doing various types of biomedical research, and eventually academic medicine - nothing is as satisfying to him as writing for the purpose of teaching tomorrow's physicians. Shan tries to bring a perspective of a person who is always trying to apply empiric reason to the world, which was necessary not only to succeed as a psychiatrist, but also to understand society as he oscillated between living in three countries (moving back and forth between Pakistan, Australia, and the US). In that process, he found himself at the University of Sydney for medical school, and then at Washington University in St. Louis for psychiatry residency. In between writing practice questions, he can be found reading about neuroscience, teaching medical students, trying (and failing) to improvise a new guitar riff, or yelling at the TV whenever the St. Louis Cardinals or the Pakistan cricket team are playing.
